While male buddy films like Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and others have been made often, buddy flicks starring female actors are a rarity in the Hindi film industry. Apart from a one-off release like Angry Indian Goddesses, there have not been any mainstream films exploring the friendship between a group of girls.

Producers Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor have now brought together actors Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhakar and Shikha Talsania (daughter of Tiku Talsania) for their next film, Veere Di Wedding, which is said to be based on the American movie, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.

The film revolves around four girls on a crazy trip and finding love. Apparently, the Veere Di Wedding girls will travel from Delhi to Europe. The shooting for the movie is about to begin this month.

Excited about the venture, Sonam tweeted, "Veere Di Wedding my next!! Rhea Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania, Ekta Kapoor. Breaking boundaries. New age. Feminisms."

Sonam is close to both Kareena and Swara. While she will share screen space with Kareena for the first time, she has worked with Swara in films like Raanjhanaa and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

With this power-packed female cast and crew, we are hoping that the industry gets its much-needed mainstream female buddy flick, which, if it works, can kickstart several other films in the genre.
