From Jai-Veeru in Sholay to Jai-Ali in the Dhoom series, we have had several buddy-cop films in Hindi cinema over the years. Apart from the story and the plot, the chemistry of the two lead stars is very important for a film of this genre. And Varun Dhawan and John Abraham certainly have some potential.
The story revolves around Kabir Shergill (John) of the special task force and cop Junaid Ansari (Dhawan), who are called into action when India’s top cricketer Viraj Sharma (no, not Virat Kohli, that would be too obvious, right?) by the baddie Vagah (Akshaye Khanna, back after a hiatus) ahead of an India v Pakistan final match.
The way this is presented to us, it does not allow us to take the event very seriously. But then that's the tone of the entire trailer. Enjoy the punches – the comic and the action-packed ones – and enjoy the adventures of the new good-looking jodi aka eye candy.
John is the more serious hardcore cop, while Dhawan is a goofy guy. In short, John is Jackie Chan in Rush Hour or Sylvester Stallone in Tango and Cash, while Varun Dhawan is Chris Tucker or Kurt Russell in the same movies.
Directed by Rohit Dhawan, and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Dishoom, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, hits the theatres on 29 July.
