Son Harshvardhan not fond of Anil Kapoor's 'Beta'

Mirzya actor unimpressed by a few clichéd films of his father; says he was considered for Life of Pi

He's not your usual star son, one blessed with uber-cool looks, one sporting a 6-pack abs. Twenty five-year-old Harshvardhan Kapoor, son of evergreen actor Anil Kapoor, has chosen the unconventional route for his début. His first film, Mirzya has him playing two different roles, both set in different eras. One one hand he plays the Rajasthani lover boy, while on the other we have him look like hermit turned warrior.

Harshvardhan's beauty lies in his imperfection. That is what has already made him popular among his female fans. Mirzya trailer evoked largely positive response. A great curiosity factor has been generated by Kapoor.

In his first interview to a tabloid, Mumbai Mirror, the young actor comes across as one who seems to have a level head on his shoulders. But more importantly, he’s doesn’t appear keen on doing conventional films.

Harsh revealed that he’s happy with the two films he's landed (he will start shooting for his second Vikramaditya Motwane's Bhavesh Joshi), which he believes will be genre breakers, and will be talked about 10 years from now irrespective of how they fare.

One of the intriguing facts revealed by Harshvardhan is how he was in the fray to play a role in Ang Lee’s Academy award winning Life of Pi. (2012). However, the director felt he looked too much like a city boy.

Of all the praises coming his way after Mirzya, the bearded Kapoor said that Ranbir Kapoor sent him a text saying that he’s a different kind of beast.

“I don't see myself in the same bracket as Tiger (Shroff) or Sooraj (Pancholi). Even Varun (Dhawan) and Sidharth (Malhotra) who are older, have made different choices and an actor is defined by his choices,” Kapoor told Mumbai Mirror.

Well, a gen-next actor, Harshvardhan has appreciated his father Anil Kapoor’s films like My Wife's Murder, Nayak, Pukar, Slumdog Millionaire and Dil Dhadakne Do. What he didn’t though were his father’s award winning film Beta (1992), and the Subhash Ghai-directed revenge drama Ram Lakhan (1989). And for his sister, Sonam, the youngest Kapoor did cry after seeing Neerja.

There’s a lot more to unravel about this new kid on the block Mizya releases on 7 October, 2016.
