The kingdom was long his. The only question was, can Salman Khan add the kohinoor to his sultanate? Well, the kohinoor has narrowly eluded him, with Sultan earning Rs 38 crore on the opening day. But Salman still holds the bragging rights at the box-office.
According to Boxofficeindia.com, Sultan has bagged a net of Rs 37-38 Cr on opening day, falling agonizingly short of the Rs 39 Cr net set by Khan’s earlier film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015).
Sultan though had topped Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in advance sales, bagging Rs 22-23 Cr, as opposed to the Rs 15 Cr by the latter, (as reported earlier by boxofficeindia.com).
The slight drop can be attributed to the fact that Eid was pushed to 7 July, which meant the Muslim audience had to wait for another day. Trade analyst Komal Nahta had this to say earlier in the day, “The early figures coming in are in the region of Rs 42-43 Cr (approximate) . This was along expected lines after Sultan bagged the maximum screens."
As reported earlier, Yash Raj Productions had had occupied more than 4700 screens nation wide.
“What makes the numbers special is that opposed to his earlier film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which was released on a holiday, Sultan has managed this staggering opening on a working day. As Eid was pushed today, don’t be surprised if the film touches Rs. 45 Cr on the second day,” added Nahta.
The die hard Salman fans will catch up with the film today. Come the weekend, the film is bound to cross Rs 100 Cr.
