There have been a number of Hindi films with female central characters in the last few years. But very few have been action films. Mardaani (2014) and Jai Gangaajal (2016) come to mind. Now, we can add Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira to the list.
The film's trailer has just been released. The film tells the story of a young woman Akira (Sinha), who is jailed for three years for a crime. On her release, she resumes her studies. But she again gets involved with a group of bad guys. The encounter brings her face-to-face with an evil cop (Kashyap), who makes life hell for her. Now, Akira has to fight all alone, without relying on anyone.
From the trailer, the film promises to be another hard-hitting, riveting saga by director AR Murugadoss (of Ghajini and Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty fame). Sinha, who plays the central character, has got plenty of opportunity of bash up baddies. But another striking feature is Kashyap in the role of the ruthless villain. He is impressive. It is also good to see Konkona Sen Sharma after a long time. On the flip side, some action sequences don’t seem as convincing as they should be.
Produced by Fox Star Studios, Akira is all set to release on 2 September 2016.
