Aamir Khan released the first poster for his next big release, Dangal, in Mumbai today. Featuring Khan as Mahavir Phogat, flanked by his daughters, the poster also features the tagline 'Mhaari chhoriyaan chhoron se kum hain ke?'
Dangal is the story of Mahavir Phogat who trained his daughters to take up the sport of wrestling despite much social criticism.
The poster is a strong testament to the casting success of the film. The movie will also see Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra play Mahavir Singh Phogat's daughters, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, respectively. The younger versions of Babita and Geeta are being played by Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar.
All four are featured prominently on the poster. Aamir Khan's transformation into the heavily built wrestler has already attracted a lot of attention. The poster does justice to his sober appearance as the father, with the salt and pepper hair and beard adding to the authenticity of the look.
The film's tagline also raises an important point for feminists by asking, "Are my girls any less than boys?" Trust Aamir Khan to take up a cause in cinema whenever possible.
Dangal is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Aamir Khan Productions in partnership with the Walt Disney Company. It is scheduled to release in theatres on 23 December this year.
