Aamir Khan terms Salman Khan's rape comment insensitive

Aamir Khan has termed Salman Khan's controversial comment on rape 'unfortunate and insensitive'. Speaking at the release of the poster for his next film Dangal, in which he plays the role of wrestler Mahavir Phogat, the superstar said, "I am going by the media report on what he said... (it) was unfortunate and insensitive." 

Aamir Khan, however, refused to react to the statement by Irrfan Khan on fasting and ritual sacrifice in Islam by saying, "Religion is a very personal issue. I don't want to comment on other people's things." 

Salman Khan has been facing the ire of women all over the country after he said he 'felt like a raped woman' while performing the stunts for his forthcoming release Sultan. The issue went viral on social media platforms, earning the actor flak from all corners.

Asked by Cinestaan.com whether the media gives more importance to comments by actors than to real issues, Aamir Khan replied, "I really feel that the media has too many issues to deal with... it is human nature that controversies and negative comments attract more attention. I do not blame you, even I tend to watch news like that. People who do good work never make it to the news. In general, negativity sells much more than positivity. We need to bring out positivity more through our news."

Aamir Khan also said he would have to thank Salman Khan for the title rights to Dangal. Apparently, he had approached Salman to talk to Puneet Issar (who had registered the right to the title Dangal) to acquire the title. Both films, Salman Khan's Sultan and Aamir Khan's Dangal, are set in the wrestling arena and witnessed the actors undergoing physical transformation for their roles. Incidentally, Aamir Khan took the help of Salman Khan's trainer, Rakesh, to change his look and physique in Dangal.

The superstar laughed off the competition between the two films saying the 'only comparison between the two is wrestling.' Aamir also predicted that Sultan would be a big hit and said his team had timed the release of Dangal's posters to ensure that audiences heading for Sultan will be able to take a look at Dangal's posters at theatres.

Dangal is the tale of a wrestler who trained his daughters to take up the sport. The poster comes with the tagline 'Mhaari chhoriyaan chhoron se kum hain ke?'

Dangal releases in theatres on 23 December.
