Ranbir Kapoor defends delay in making of Jagga Jasoos

It's has been one of the most anticipated films, not just because of it stars, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrian Kaif, but also because director Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos has been in the news for the long delay in its making. The first shoot had begun in 2014 and it's taken nearly three years for the film to be shot. Jagga Jasoos has been shot across South Africa, Thailand, Morocco and India. 

Basu had first finished a 20-day schedule in March 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa. Rumour had it that the simmering tension between real lovers Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif affected the shoot, as some scenes lacked intensity. Reportedly, Basu then had to reshoot them. 

At first the problem arose because Kapoor had committed dates to Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, which was shot in Sri Lanka. This left Basu to film Jagga Jasoos during gaps in Bombay Velvet shooting. Ranbir also alloted dates to Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha causing further delays. Meanwhile, Katrina took the time to shoot Fitoor.

In October 2014 Jagga Jasoos was shot in Thailand. Delays followed and the film was stretched to 2016.  After winding up Bombay Velvet, Kapoor has also shot for Karan Johar directed Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. 

Early this year, Katrina and Ranbir broke up further affecting the shoot with the two actors reportedly not seeing eye-to-eye. In July this year, producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor rubbished reports that Ranbir-Katrina split was affecting the film. First meant to release in November 2015, the film’s released was then pushed to 3 June 2016 and later to September 2016. The final schedule was shot in Morocco. Siddharth Kapoor was quoted saying that the film is now likely to release in March 2017. 

At a recent event, Kapoor was asked the all -important question when will Jagga Jassoos release? And why is it that the film has taken so long to make?

“Jaggaa Jasoos is a much-awaited film for me too. It is almost three years and the film is still in the process. This is a very special and different film for me and difficult too,” Ranbir told reporters. 

Defending his director, Kapoor said, “His films are filled with emotions, so that it can bring tears in your eyes and a smile on your face. I think it takes a good amount of time to make a film. It's not like that you have only four months and you have to finish it within that time period."

Not a convincing answer by any means, but now that we’ve waited for three years, why not wait for another. Kapoor will next be seen in the Karan Johar directed Ae Dil Hai Muskhil that releases on Diwali this year.
