Baar Baar Dekho: Sidharth Malhotra's time travel love story - Spoiler alert!

The first song 'Kala Chashma' of the Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer Baar Baar Dekho came out today, and it's already being lapped up. But the makers haven't released the trailer yet, choosing to introduce the dance track first. The attempt probably is to keep the audience guessing for a little while longer before revealing what the film is actually about. But here's a little dope on the plot of the film before the trailer comes out.

Baar Baar Dekho is based on director Richard Curtis's British romantic comedy About Time (2013), which starred Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy in leading roles. In About Time, Gleeson is told by his father that the male members of their family have the special gift of time travel. There are do's and don'ts to using the gift though. Expect onscreen dad Rajit Kapur to reveal the same to Sidharth in the Hindi version. Sidharth will decide to use this ability to improve his love life initially and then for various other reasons.

The story will follow Sidharth and Katrina's life as they grow old together, with Sidharth's gift doing some good but also troubling them from time to time. 

Baar Baar Dekho was earlier titled Kal Jisne Dekha. The film will show Sidharth going back in time repeatedly, hence the new title. Apart from a love story, the film is also a father-son tale. 

Even though About Time received a good amount of positive reviews, it was also criticised for setting its own time travel rules. We hope director Nitya Mehra, who has previously assisted on Ang Lee's Life of Pi (2012) and Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012), adds her own sensibilities and twists to the tale. We also hope that there are some surprises for those who have already watched the original. 

Let's wait for the trailer to find out how much of About Time we get to see. Baar Baar Dekho releases on 9 September.
