From her filmography so far, Radhika Apte has made it evident that she is only interested in playing strong characters. However, she will now be seen playing heroine to Rajinikanth in Kabali, a film that celebrates the star power of the veteran actor. Whether or not Radhika will be reduced to playing a typical second fiddle to him will be known after the release. But she is sure she won’t get overshadowed by the superstar.
During a recent media interaction when the Phobia actor was asked about whether her character is in danger of being overshadowed by Rajinikanth, she said, “What? Do you really think this is how I think? No! Rajinikanth is Rajinikanth, I am me. We are playing two characters. Nobody gets overshadowed by anybody else. You just play your part. Whatever happens will happen yaar. I don’t think like that. I don’t have that approach.”
Speaking about the film, she continued, “Kabali was like a double whammy for me because I got to work with Rajinikanth and the subject is really, really good; it is strong and important. It has a very good script and director. And my character is very strong as well.”
Radhika is also all praise for Rajinikanth and his manner of working. “It turned out to be one of my best experiences because he is one of the most professional actors I have met. He is completely inspiring. Just to see him wait for his next shot is quite inspiring. How he carries himself and how he transforms on screen. He is very generous, respectful, simple and sincere. It’s all about work and not any taak-jhaak. So, there was really a lot to learn.”
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kabali is all set to release on 22 July 2016.
