Ever since Sanjay Dutt came out of jail earlier this year, there has been speculation about his return to the silver screen. It is now confirmed that Dutt will make his comeback with a sequel to his 1993 blockbuster, Khal Nayak.
Titled Khalnayak Returns, this film will reunite Subhash Ghai with his Khal Nayak star. But this time around, the Munna Bhai actor will also share the role of the film’s co-producer with Ghai. In an official statement, the filmmaker revealed that Khalnayak Returns will continue from where Khal Nayak ended.
He said, “Yes, it’s confirmed. Mukta Arts and Sanjay Dutt Productions have made an agreement to produce Khalnayak Returns by 2016-end. Sanjay will play Ballu Balram who comes out of jail after 20 years and the rest is what happens next. We are working on the script and once it’s complete we will announce the rest of cast and credits. We are looking out for a well-known production with a young director and an exciting cast.”
There have been various unconfirmed reports about Tiger Shroff being part of the Khal Nayak sequel. However, Ghai has rubbished these claims. “We have not signed Tiger Shroff as it is rumoured; we are still waiting to complete the script and will take a call for the rest of cast once it’s over. There is a lot of excitement around and we are also waiting for the right time to announce the further developments.”
Khal Nayak, which also starred Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit in important roles, became a runaway success when it was released in 1993.
