Where is Mayuri Kango?

In 1996, a young girl with green eyes caught the attention of many. Aurangabad girl Mayuri Kango’s posters sold like hot cakes, for many felt she looked a bit like Aishwarya Rai. She was the lead in the Mahesh Bhatt film ‘Papa Kehte Hai,’ which many assumed was her debut. Kango had actually made her debut a year before though, with a controversial film on the Babri Masjid demolition titled ‘Naseem’, where she played daughter to the great poet Kaifi Azmi. Director Saeed Naeem Mirza picked up a National Award for the film, but Mayuri went largely unnoticed.
 
Kango got her big break with Papa Kehte Hain but, unfortunately, the film tanked at the box office. She was praised for her performance though, and touted for big things. Unfortunately, fate wasn’t too kind as Kango couldn’t make it count with her subsequent films Betaabi, Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet or Badal. She later did a forgettable item number ‘Chunri Ude Toh Aankh Phadke’ in the 2000 film Shikari.
 
At the start of the millennium, she switched to TV, playing one of the bahus in Zee TV show ‘Dollar Bahu’. She later played daughter to Karisma Kapoor in the Sahara One show Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny.
 
Kango eventually shifted to New York after her marriage to NRI Aditya Dhillon in 2003. She got an MBA in Marketing and Finance and returned to India where she now works as Chief Anolog to Digital Conversion officer in a media agency based in Gurgaon, Haryana.
