Do you remember Mamik?

Where did Aamir’s Khan brother in Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander go?

After a blockbuster debut, Aamir Khan did some forgetful films,  and badly needed a hit to resurrect his career.  Four years later, he won audiences over with his slice of life tale Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander, about a lower middles class family’s struggle to make ends meet.

Reckless, carefree Sanjaylal (Aamir) is hurt by the attack on his brother Ratanlal, which robs him of his dream of winning a gold medal at a cycling contest.  The film was a hit but, apart from Aamir, another man who stole many hearts was Mamik Singh, playing Aamir’s elder brother.

It was Mamik’s first film, after which he vanished for four years before appearing on television, starring in shows like Yug and Hindustani. He returned to cinema with Koi Kisise Kum Nahin, which bombed. That same year saw him in Aar Yaar Pyaar, which flopped too, after which he played a small role in Preity Zinta’s Kya Kehna.

He disappeared again, returning to TV in the late 2000s with costume drama Chandrakanta Ki Kahani.

In 2010, he did a nondescript film called Mallika, and hasn’t been seen on the silver screen since.  Apparently, he is set to make a comeback this year with the Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer Do Lafzon Ki Hai Kahani. Often asked about his career, Mamik doesn’t blame anyone but his laidback attitude.
