Mani Ratnam’s Tamil movie Ok Kanmani became a runaway blockbuster when it released last year. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen, the romantic drama was also appreciated in non-south regions of India.
The film is now remade in Hindi by filmmaker Shaad Ali and it stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. It’s a joint venture between Fox Star Studios, Madras Talkies and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
The first poster of the film has been released. It has Kapur and Kapoor in a romantic pose. It shows Kapur trying to kiss Kapoor but is stopped by the latter. This is their second film together after the runaway hit Aashiqui 2 (2013).
This is also the second time that Ali is remaking Ratnam’s film. He did it successfully in 2002 with Saathiya, which was the remake of the Tamil film Alaipayuthey (2000). Ali has been an assistant director with Ratnam for a number of films.
Ok Jaanu is set to be released on 13 January 2017.
