Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal-starrer Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh came with a lot of expectations, as the first offering of the franchise that released in 2012 became a surprise blocbuster at the box office, apart from winning accolades.

For now, Kahaani 2 has had a decent start, earning Rs4.25 on the opening day, though it is much less than this year's other female-led films like Akira (Rs5.15 crore on day 1) and Neerja (Rs4.70 on day 1). But whether it remains flat on day two like Akira or sees a jump like Neerja, remains to be seen.

Even then it's still a positive start for a film that released in 1235 screens.

As of now, decent reviews and word of mouth are expected to help the Sujoy Ghosh directorial grow its collections on Saturday and Sunday. If that doesn't happen then the production and publicity cost of Rs27 crore may not be easy to recover in the first week.

Kahaani had earned around Rs2.95 crores on the first day and had a lifetime collection of approximately Rs51 crore. We will have to wait and see if Kahaani 2 achieves similar success in the coming days and gives Balan the elusive hit she has been looking for since 2012.
