Satya was a way better directed film than Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: Karan Johar

It is not news any more when a film celebrity says that reviews don't matter to him or her. There have also been few who react to negative reviews, but still maintain that they don’t read reviews. However, Karan Johar has no qualms in admitting that reviews matter to him a lot.

He said, “I want the critical acclaim as well. It breaks my heart when I read bad reviews and I read all of them. I know exactly who said what and I take that criticism in the right spirit. I don’t think there are people out there get to me personally. If they haven’t liked a film, they genuinely may not have liked it. I am obsessed by critics. I read everything. I want the acclaim. I want the money.” 

The filmmaker was speaking at the launch of Filmfare Awards in Mumbai. He was accompanied by his protégé and actress, Alia Bhatt. 

Johar became nostalgic thinking about his very first Filmfare Award for Best Director for his debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). He admitted that he felt Ram Gopal Varma would walk away with the award for Satya (1998). 

“For my very first film I was actually competing very strongly with a film called Satya. And I thought that was a way better directed film than mine. I thought may be perhaps Ram Gopal Varma will walk away with the award,” said the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil maker.
