Shraddha & Aditya’s 'OK Jaanu' song pales in comparison to original Tamil version

After recieving a good response for Shaad Ali's OK Jaanu trailer and 'Humma Humma', Dharma Productions has now released the title song.

The visuals have been used in the trailer too, so there's nothing new or refreshing in the song. The overuse of posterized time effect can get a tad annoying, and you wish Ali and his director of photogrpahy Ravi K Chandran could go easy on its use.

'OK Jaanu' lyrics are written by Gulzar and is a conversation between two lovers. The lyrics are written keeping the young audience in mind.

The music overpowers the singing in 'OK Jaanu' and you have to strain your ears to listen to the lyrics. AR Rahman's ability to make beautiful and widely accepted music cannot be challenged. But, the same cannot be said about 'OK Jaanu'.

The lack of clarity in his words reminds of 'Mangta Hai Kya' from Rangeela (1995) , which worked solely because of its rocking music.

Singer Srinidhi Venkatesh seems to have upstaged Rahman in the OK Jaanu title track. While the music is appealing, it’s the unimpressive performance by Rahman and the average lyrics that don't work for the song.

Remarkably though, Rahman seemed at complete ease with the original song 'Mental Manadhil' from OK Kanmani (2015). OK Jaanu is an official remake of Mani Ratnam’s 2015 romantic drama.

What works for the track is brilliantly shot locales of Mumbai and the chemistry between Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Even after their runaway hit Aashiqui (2013), their pairing is a breath of fresh air. Watch the title track purely for their carefree attitude.

Here's the Tamil track ''Mental Manadhil'. Make your pick.
