Akshay Kumar has had a terrific 2016. With three hits and three Rs100-crore earning films — Airlift, Housefull 3 and Rustom — he has become one of the most bankable stars in mainstream Hindi cinema. It seems his dream box-office run will most probably continue with Jolly LLB 2 too. The trailer for the keenly awaited film has been released today (19 December).
Jolly LLB (2011), which starred Arshad Warsi as the central character, was one of the few Hindi films to portray Indian courts much closer to reality, as compared to other films. However, going by the trailer of the sequel, it seems that director Subhash Kapoor has compromised reality to suit the film’s commercial needs.
So, here the protagonist is seen breaking protocol of the court, which wasn’t the case of the first film. But this is not all. They have also shown Jolly as a typical commercial film hero who also is also involved in fight sequences. It is clear that the presence of Kumar as the main lead is the reason for this. Also, the transition from whacky to very serious appears sudden, especially the Kashmir angle.
Having said all this, the film is appealing to the commercial audience, more so if you are a Kumar fan.
Annu Kapoor, who plays the villain, and Saurabh Shukla, who repeats his character of a judge, also appear promising. The trailer also gives a glimpse of Kumud Mishra, who was also seen recently in Akshay’s Airlift and Rustom. The film stars Huma Qureshi as the female lead.
Jolly LLB 2 is all set to be released on 10 February 2017.
