After YouTube released its top trends of 2016, social networking site Facebook has announced its top ‘moments’ in India of 2016. from 1 January to 27 November 2016.
These moments cover the events, the trends that people shared and talked about the most during the year. In a first, Facebook also unveiled the top live videos from the year.
Expectedly, Indians are high on cricket and entertainment and so it is not surprising to see cricket matches featuring India and a film star like Priyanka Chopra make it to the list.
Chopra is ranked sixth on the list which includes MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, the biopic on the India cricketer and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Interestingly, the Dhoni biopic was rated at number 4, two places above Chopra.
The Dhoni biopic and Chopra were Hindi cinema’s only representation in the top 10 moments. The list is topped by the festival of Diwali, followed by cricket and the Uri attacks and India’s subsequent surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Priyanka Chopra are separated by the Hardwell concert which took fifth place. The Rio Olympics came seventh. Pokemom Go, the Pathankot terror attacks and the iPhone 7 rounded off the top 10 for the most talked about topics in India on Facebook this year.
The social networking giant also revealed some of the top live videos in India. Included in the list were Amitabh Bachchan’s first live Facebook interaction which got over 6.5 million views, over 38,000 shares, and 649,000 comments.
Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s live Facebook interaction as part of their Dear Zindagi promotions drew in 6.1 million views, over 16,000 shares, and 131,000 comments.
One of the big surprises among the most watched Facebook videos was Kajol’s attempt to teach hubby Ajay Devgn Marathi. This video got 4.7 million views, over 12,000 shares, and 24,000 comments.
Facebook has 166 million monthly active users in India and 159 million mobile monthly active users.
