Today marks the 97th birth anniversary of legendary author and poet, Amrita Pritam. She had a vast body of work throughout her long career. But she is also remembered for her romance with celebrated Hindi film lyricist, Sahir Ludhianvi. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has planned a film on the real-life romance of the two literary giants.
These are the names that have been speculated to play the role of Pritam.
Bhumi Pednekar
There were reports about Bhumi Pednekar being considered for the role because she is talented and not over-exposed yet. The actress did show a lot of promise in her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), which was produced under Yash Raj Films. Currently, she is busy shooting Manmarziyan.
Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha will be trying to move away from the typical heroine mode with AR Murugadoss’ Akira. There were reports that she will be getting another chance to do that with the said film on Pritam and Ludhianvi where she is paired opposite Fawad Khan. But there hasn’t been any official word on this.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
There was news that Bhansali tried hard to get Kareena Kapoor Khan on board for the role of Pritam, but to no avail. The actress is currently pregnant and will be shooting her next Veere Di Wedding from next year March onwards.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra has had a health relationship with Bhansali since last few years. After doing a hit number in his film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), she bagged the important role of Kashibai in his next, Bajirao Mastani (2015). There are unconfirmed reports of she being approached by the filmmaker to play Pritam.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone won accolades and awards for her portrayal of Mastani in Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Few news reports claimed that the filmmaker was considering her for the role of the legendary literary figure, but there hasn’t been more to it. The actress will next be seen in the Hollywood flick, XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage.
