Ever since it released, Dil Chahta Hai, has been ranked among one of the most iconic films of the millenium. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film changed the way Hindi cinema looked at its youth demographic. From its witty one-liners to the stellar performances, it remains the standout film that began a new wave in Hindi cinema. Many think that the film cannot be duplicated. Fortunately, the director does not think so.

Recently, in an interview to Hindustan Times, Akhtar confirmed that he has been thinking about a sequel to Sid-Sam-Akash's adventures. He said, " It (a sequel to DCH) is something that I would like to do. I actually mentioned this earlier this year too. It is too early to say if anything is happening or not, only time will tell." The director also added, "I have a lot on my mind about the sequel, but I don’t know what to say about when it is going to happen."

On the 15th anniversary of the movie's release, Akhtar had replied to a tweet asking about the sequel to the film which led to feverish conclusions erupting on the internet. His tweet went:

The director is not the only one to be excited about the prospect of a sequel to the hit film. Actor Akshaye Khanna too spoke about the possibility of it last month. Speaking in an interview, the actor said, "I’ll leave everything to act in it.” But will it be tricky to revisit the film? “I’ll do it provided that the script is fantastic. Also, it has to receive a collective thumbs up from the rest of the team members,"

Akhtar clarified on his tweet by saying, "I thought, “Let me add something to go along with my Don 3 and Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara 2 [queries].” Now, I will just keep throwing out [stories about my] sequels."

Currently, Akhtar is waiting for the release of Rock On!! 2 on 11 November.
