The search for Rawal Ratan Singh could be over soon with reports suggesting that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali could rope in Shahid Kapoor to play Deepika Padukone's husband in his period drama Padmavati.

As reported by BollywoodLife.com, Bhansali has offered the role of the king to Shahid Kapoor, who is currently filming for Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon (2017). The Haider (2014) actor is likely to take a break in a few months as he and wife Mira Rajput are expecting their first child.

Rumour has it that the role of the rawal was first offered to Raman Raghav 2.0 actor Vicky Kaushal, but Padukone wanted a bigger star. The role was then said to have been offered to a TV actor, but Padukone was not comfortable with that, too. Shahid Kapoor is certainly a bigger star than Kaushal, but is he big enough to share screen space with Deepika Padukone?

Ranveer Singh is likely to play the antagonist Alauddin Khilji, the Delhi sultan who attacked Chittorgarh to capture its queen, Rani Padmini.
