The news of Shah Rukh Khan starring in Gauri Shinde's next, Dear Zindagi, came as a surprise to many. This was mainly because both Khan and Shinde had kept the development under wraps. While Alia Bhatt plays the female protagonist, the film has four other males protagonists – Kunal Kapoor, Aditya Roy-Kapoor, Ali Zafar and Angad Bedi.

It was believed that Khan would only make a cameo appearance as a love guru to Bhatt in the multi-starrer. However, the film’s leading lady has quashed these rumours.

“If you remove Shah Rukh Khan from Dear Zindagi then there is no film. In that way you can say that he is a very integral part of the film,” Bhatt told a portal.

Bhatt equated acting with Khan in the film to a cherry on the cake.

"Ending the year with a Khan film is like a cherry on the cake. Honestly speaking, I am very excited for this film for two reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that I am working with Shah Rukh Khan for the first time. Just working with him, being in one frame of the film...I never thought that dream would even come true and the second reason is that I feel it’s a very sweet, simple and unique story,” said Bhatt.

Dear Zindagi is slated to release on 25 November.
