Actress Sonam Kapoor, who will be sharing screen space with Kareena Kapoor Khan in the upcoming Veerey Di Wedding, says reports that the latter has opted out of the film are untrue.

Criticising the daily that published the report, Sonam said, "Nobody from the newspaper contacted us nor are they picking up the phone for clarification. Honestly, this is just gossip. We are about to start shooting certain portions of the film. However, most of the film will be shot in April after [Kapoor Khan's] delivery. It's a completely untrue and irresponsible way of writing news."

On Monday, it was reported that Kareena, who is expecting her first child with husband Saif Ali Khan in December, had opted out of the movie owing to the pregnancy.

Sonam was addressing the media at an event of the Indian Merchants' Chamber's Ladies' Wing which celebrates its golden jubilee this year and presented its much-awaited Women Entrepreneurs (WE) exhibition yesterday.

"I think in general this has been a patriarchal society, we have a lot of uneven ground for actresses, sportswomen. The women in our society go through obstacles as they are judged the way they look or speak or whether they are pregnant. We are not looked at as strong and capable people. I think it's very very unfair and hope things are going to get better," said the Neerja (2016) actress.

Stressing that women are the foundation of society, she said empowering women will help to get a better society and better India and cited Indian women's success in the recently ended Rio Olympics as an example.

Veerey Di Wedding is directed by Shashanka Ghosh of Khoobsurat (2014) fame and also stars Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. The film is jointly produced by Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
