The media had been waiting with bated breath for the event. After all, Kareena Kapoor Khan was to make her first public appearance since the official announcement of her pregnancy.
Out to launch a hair colour brand in a Mumbai hotel, Kapoor Khan sported her baby bump in an off-shoulder dress. The Jab We Met actress was in a cheerful mood and answered questions from the media.
The most pertinent one was how the Hindi film industry had been sceptical while casting pregnant actresses.
“It’s a myth that women can’t work when they are pregnant,” said Kapoor Khan at the presser.
It may be recalled that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hadn't disclosed about her preganncy when she signed up for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine. The Bachchan bahu had commenced shooting and the director and the producer only came to know of her pregnancy through media reports. Rai Bachchan was four-months pregnant then and would need a break to give birth. With the producers not wanting to take the risk of shooting with a pregnant actress, Heroine was stalled. Few years later, Bhandarkar cast Kareena Kapoor in the role. The film bombed at the box-office.
When asked which actress's hairdo she liked, Kapoor Khan gave a cheeky reply: “ Ahh.. (pauses). I think Shah Rukh Khan has very good hair.” When asked to specify a name, she replied, “A lot of them have a good hairstyle. Truth be told, most of us use hair extensions.” The entire gathering broke out into a laughter.
An intriguing point about Kapoor Khan's career has been that she has never cut her hair short for any of her films. When reminded about it, Kapoor Khan said, “Charcter-wise, I’ve never cut my hair short because I’m paranoid. I love my hair too much. There is nothing wrong if a woman loves her hair. My hair is absolutely gorgeous and fine. I’m not chopping my locks.”
Kapoor Khan was seen in the Dharma Productions' Ki & Ka that released earlier this year. She has been married to Saif Ali Khan since October 2012. The couple is expecting their first child in December this year. She's rumoured to be part of Golmaal 4, that goes on floors in early 2017.
