Director Mudassar Aziz’s Happy Bhag Jayegi, which released on 19 August, has managed an average performance at the box-office on its first weekend by earning Rs10.5 crore, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film has an ensemble cast of Diana Penty, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Deol and Ali Fazal. It tells the story of Happy (Diana) who runs away from her wedding with Bagga (Shergill) as she loves Guddu (Fazal) and accidentally lands up in Pakistan at Bilawal’s (Deol) place.
Happy Bhag Jayegi had a dull opening day as it earned only Rs2.25 crore on Friday. So, it was vital for the film to perform much better in the next two days. This did happen to some extent as it gathered Rs3.50 crore and Rs4.75 crore on Saturday and Sunday.
The film has earned better in the first weekend than Madaari and 1920 London, which earned a similar number on the first day.
With the cost of production being reported at Rs18 crore, Happy Bhag Jayegi relies heavily on its weekday collections starting today. However, its first week will be wrapped up on Wednesday itself since Tiger Shroff’s superhero saga, A Flying Jatt with be releasing on Thursday, 25 August.
