Jinx continues: Now rains delay Aanand L Rai's Manmarziyan

The romantic drama starring Ayushmann Khurranna and Bhumi Pednekar faces an uncertain future as producer Rai has reportedly put the film on hold.

It is a project that appears to be jinxed from the beginning. The Aanand L Rai-produced Manmarziyan faces an uncertain future as the filmmaker-producer has reportedly put the film on the backburner. This after shooting had to be cancelled recently owing to incessant rains. Manmarziyan stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal.

Manmarziyan was slated to release in September this year. Rai had roped in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurrana (2012) director Sameer Sharma to helm the film. Manmarziyan began its first schedule early this year, but then problems arose as Sharma and Rai developed creative differences. The shooting was halted and Ayushmann Khurrana then started shooting for Meri Pyaari Bindu, a Yash Raj Films project.

Sharma was then replaced by Nil Battey Sannata (2016) director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, who was hoping to begin shooting in August. Back in June, Rai had confirmed to Cinestaan.com that the shooting for Manmarziyan would resume in August and wind up in October, with the film likely to release in 2017.

However, this time the rains played spoilsport. Rai is now said to have put the film on the backburner as he is busy with pre-production work of his next with Shah Rukh Khan.

Attempts to get in touch with Rai and Tiwari were in vain. However, a source associated with the film said, “The rains have indeed delayed the shooting but please don’t believe stories of the film being scrapped.”

However, when asked about the next schedule, the source said, “There has been no communication. We will just have to wait and watch.”
