The country went into a frenzy when Pusarla Venkata Sindhu a.k.a. PV Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the women’s singles badminton semi-final at the Olympics yesterday (18 August 2016). She now stands a chance of earning a gold medal for India as she plays the final today against Spain’s Carolina Marin, who is a two-time world champion.

Her achievement came a day after Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won the bronze for the country in the same tournament.

As expected, Sindhu’s feat triggered instant celebrations in the country with wishes pouring in non-stop on social media. Hindi film celebrities too joined in to wish the two champions of India. These included Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh among others.

While other stars merely congratulated India’s Olympic stars, Big B went few steps ahead and mocked writer Shobha De, who had severely criticised the country’s Olympic players for clicking selfies and having a gala time at the tournament. But that's not all. He also praised India's ex-cricketer Virendra Sehwag's sense of humour as the latter took a dig at De.
