A public meeting and demonstration was held by the members of the Bishnoi community in Jodhpur against the Rajasthan government for its inability to ensure punishment for poachers in the state. They specifically demanded that a Special Leave Petition (SLP) be filed against actor Salman Khan in the poaching case in which he was acquitted last month.
President of All India Bishnoi Mahasabha, Heera Ram Bhawat, reportedly said that he smelled a rat in the verdict since the witness who reappeared after 12 years is still not been heard by the court.
Another leader of the community from Haryana presented a memorandum to the district collector and expressed that the state has been lenient against poachers and warned that a larger action would be taken if proper action isn’t taken against them.
Khan was acquitted on 25 July by the Rajasthan high court in two cases of poaching. The incident reportedly took place in 1998 during the shoot of Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Saath Saath Hain.
