After the debacle of Fan (2016), Salman Khan’s Sultan has turned out to be redemptive for producers Yash Raj Films. The film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, recently reached Rs300 crore at the Indian box office, making it the first YRF film to score a triple century. It also became only the third film to cross the magical figure after PK (2014) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).

The makers have decided to celebrate the feat in a unique manner. YRF has announced an award of Rs10 lakh to every Indian Olympian who wins a gold medal at the Rio Olympics. The campaign is called ‘Saluting every Sultan at Rio’. In the film, Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma’s characters are shown winning gold medals at the Olympics in the sport of wrestling.

An official poster shared by the makers said, “YRF will be happy to honour every Indian gold medal winner at the Rio Olympics 2016 with INR 10 lakh.”

Going by current developments at the Olympics, archer Deepika Kumari and boxer Manoj Kumar stand a chance of notching the highest honour at the Games. It will be known today whether they become the first beneficiaries of the YRF scheme.
