After battling with Melissa McCarthy in the 2015 Hollywood hit, Spy, Nargis Fakhri is ready to take on Hollywood once more. She will star alongside Bo Derek and Candy Clark in 5 Weddings which will be directed by Indian-American filmmaker Namrata Singh Gujral.

In an interview, Fakhri explained why she took on the role. She said, “I took this offer up because I felt connected to the character. I have a similar story. The character is American, but also has a multi-ethnic heritage. She is sort of forced to connect with her roots, and it becomes a life-changing experience for her.”

Fakhri recently fended off rumours that she had left India and Hindi films for good. She took to Twitter to declare she is still taking up assignments and will be back in India to promote Banjo. Directed by Ravi Jadhav, Banjo features Riteish Deshmukh as a musician while Nargis will play a DJ. Banjo releases on 23 September 2016.

She is not limiting herself to just Indian assignments, and is keen on taking up international projects as well. She stated, “My life has been filled with coincidences. Bollywood was one, and has been great. But I think, in my heart, I want to also do projects at home (USA).”

5 Weddings, written by Vineet Dewan and Denise Cruz-Castino, follows an American journalist who comes to India to cover “Bollywood weddings”. The film will start shooting in India by the end of this year. Nargis is currently vacationing in Greece.
