Vikramaditya Motwane to direct Stan Lee’s ‘Chakra’

The world will soon marvel at an Indian superhero created by none other than Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee.

Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment and Graphic India, a character entertainment company, have announced a partnership with Phantom Films to begin pre-production work on the live-action theatrical film titled ‘Charka The Invincible’.

Lootera and Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane, who is a key member of Phantom Films, will direct the film.

Stan Lee himself will be playing a cameo in the film.

"I'm a fan of Bollywood films and I am really excited about launching Chakra the Invincible as my first Bollywood superhero movie," Stan Lee, chief creative officer at POW! Entertainment, said in a statement.

"Vikramaditya Motwane is an amazingly talented filmmaker who I have no doubt can make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the world. I only hope he remembers to include my cameo!"

Meanwhile, Motwane said, "It’s an honour and an absolute delight to be making a film based on a Stan Lee character. We are very excited and hope to take comic-book filmmaking to the next level with Chakra. And no, we won't forget Stan's cameo.”

Chakra was originally developed as a superhero property by Lee's POW! Entertainment with Graphic India. The comic revolved around an Indian teenager, Raju Rai, a technology genius living in Mumbai. Determined to use science to unlock the secrets of human potential, Raju develops a technically enhanced suit that activates the mystical chakras of the body, unleashing newfound abilities and powers. However, the film will show Chakra in his early twenties.

An animated series on Chakra is in the offing and will release later this year on The Cartoon Network.

Stan Lee is the creator of iconic comics such as Spider-Man, X-Men, and The Avengers.
