Sonalee Kulkarni, who was last seen as a determined and vulnerable mother in Prasad Oak's Hirkani (2019), is set star in another historical epic. The actress has been roped in to play the titular role of Rani Tarabai in Rahul Jadhav's upcoming historical drama Chhatrapati Tararani.
Kulkarni took to Facebook to share the motion poster of the film where she is seen riding a horse and wielding a sword. The motion poster suggests that the project is going to be an action film.
Speaking about the responsibility attached to portraying the iconic historical figure, Kulkarni said in a statement, "I feel honoured that I got the opportunity to portray the role of Chhatrapati Tararani. This is the proudest moment of my life. This is going to be one of my toughest roles and I will do my best to do justice to it."
Rarely remembered and often overshadowed by her male predecessors, Rani Tarabai, Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's younger daughter-in-law, was instrumental in saving the Maratha empire from collapse after the death of her husband Chhatrapati Rajaram in 1700.
Rani Tarabai was the daughter of Hambirrao Mohite, and interestingly, Pravin Tarde is making a film on the historical figure titled Sarsenapati Hambirra0 (2021). We are quite intrigued to see what these two films will have in common.
The film based on Dr Jaysingrao Pawar's novel Mogalmardini Maharani Tararani has been adapted for the screen by Sudhir Nikam.
