Irrfan Khan: I don’t live in a country ruled by religious thekedars

The actor remains unfazed by severe condemnations arising at his comments on fasting and the practice of 'Qurbani' during Ramzan.

Irrfan Khan has been receiving flak from Islamic religious leaders over his comments on Ramazan fasting and the act of Qurbani (sacrifice). While interacting with the media, the actor had questioned the practice of fasting during Ramazan and had sternly criticized the slaughtering of animals in the name of 'Qurbani'.

He faced severe condemnation from Zafaryad Gilabi, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPB) and Maulana Khatri, secretary of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind. While he received a lot of support on social media, he also faced hateful comments from traditionalists.

However, it seems Irrfan is unfazed by the controversy. The Lunchbox actor responded to the critics through a series of tweets, where he openly condemned clerics.

Co-incidentally, the actor’s upcoming movie, Madaari releases later this month on 15 July 2016.
